The Central Indiana Chapter sponsors four student chapters: Ball State University in Muncie, Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, Indiana State University in Terre Haute, and the very first NECA Student Chapter, at Purdue University in West Lafayette.

  • The first NECA student chapter in country was established at Purdue University in 1996. There are now 33 student chapters across the U.S. and Canada.

  • Student Chapters give Construction Management students first-hand contact with the electrical construction industry and a direct line to potential employers for internships and employment after graduation.

  • Jobsite tours offer up-close exposure to the state-of-the-art structures that NECA member electrical contractors are building in Central Indiana.

  • Students may participate in various events and activities, including the annual Green Energy Challenge poster competition and ELECTRI International's Student Passport Initiative.

  • Scholarships, established through the NECA Chapter, are awarded to the most promising student members each year.

  • The Student Chapters program is mutually beneficial to our NECA member contractors and students - it allows contractors to interact with students through events and meetings, and to get to know their knowledge and experience levels better through the scholarship application process. In this way, contractors are in a sense pre-interviewing possible candidates for estimating, project management, and other positions within their firms.

If you are interested in participating in the Chapter's Student Liaison Committee, attending a Student Chapter event, hosting a jobsite tour at one of your jobs/projects, or just learning more about the program, you may contact Sam at the Chapter office (317-846-5680) or at sam.lacher@indiananeca.org.
